 The Director: Renato Palmi is a well-known researcher, author and development specialist.  His focus is on what he calls FASHION-NOMICS - a term he coined - researching the economics of fashion. He works with designers and students on fashion development projects.

He undertakes evaluations of Fashion weeks and provides strategic input for the promtion of South African fashion and clothing sectors.

 

Offering informative and critical commentary on related economic regeneration issues, he has become known as "South Africa's fashion insider" as a source of astute (sometimes controversial) observation and analysis of all the various elements that make up an important industry sector. Several of his evidence-based recommendations have been noted and taken forward by industry organisations and government bodies.

 

Palmi lectures to fashion design students on brand-building, marketing and sales.  He is currently contracted to Linea Academy a South African fashion educational college as their marketing/brand developer/media relations and project director.

 

He has also assisted designers and individuals wanting to enter the industry with business strategies and research.  He lectures on global trade and issues of both free and fair/ethical trade within the context of the international apparel sector.

 

He is a prolific writer and often his critical and forward-thinking articles, which seek to expiscate (craft) alternative thinking, pre-empts international formulations and development evaluation of the apparel industry

 

Palmi has post graduate qualifications in Development Studies, and qualifications in marketing and production management.  He has undertaken specialised training in Public-Private Partnerships in Economic Development, Research Methodology and in Monitoring and Evaluation.  He has work experience in corporate, non-governmental and academic environments.
